Why Nevada Online Gambling Isn’t Seeing Success

Nevada Online GamblingIt’s no secret that Las Vegas, Nevada is seen as one of the gambling centers of the world, so it’s no surprise that Nevada was one of the first states to present a process for licensing online casino operations. The problem is that Nevada online gambling hasn’t been very successful. There are a number of reasons why this is the case, but a lot of it comes down to factors that affect the US online casino industry as a whole.

Weaknesses of Nevada Online Gambling

Ultimate Gaming was the first licensed online gambling company to run in the United States. They offered online poker games to players inside of the state of Nevada, and a deal with Delaware provided the first intrastate online gambling. However, this wasn’t enough to make the company profitable enough to continue, and they announced that they were closing up shop inside the past two months.

The main weaknesses of online gambling in Nevada came down to two issues. First, they didn’t offer a wide selection of games in part because of lobbying efforts that are trying to protect the interests of live venues. Second, the games that they did offer (ie: poker) were not handled in a way that allowed success in the first place.

The Online Gambling Ecosystem

Some types of online gambling require a pool of players to compete against each other and connect with each other on some level. If that pool isn’t large enough, the games can never really take off in a meaningful way, and that was the case with Nevada’s online poker games. To make online poker work in the United States, several states are going to have to pool players together to provide an environment where the games can flourish.

Other Issues

This situation with Nevada online poker is just one issue of a larger problem. That problem is that some states are going to have to be a loss leader before other states get on board, and with Ultimate Gaming shutting its doors, that could be a bad sign for things to come.
