West Virginia Online Gambling Could Be Coming Next

There have been casinos opening up not far from their borders for a while, and so Atlantic City isn’t their only competition anymore. They have expanded their offerings more than once in the past ten years, but West Virginia online gambling could be the next step. It’s looking like this could be the case, and that would cause quite a stir as yet another state would push forward on the expansion of Internet gambling.

Could West Virginia Online Gambling Be Coming Soon?

The West Virginia Gambling Commission announced earlier this week that they are looking at a move to the online casino sector because so many players have already been leaving their land-based establishments for online options. This comes after a smoking ban and other restrictions made land-based casinos less of an attractive option for a lot of players.

There are other things that keep players from wagering on things like the state lottery as well. A lot of gas stations in the state have switched over to pay-at-the-pump style delivery systems when compared to previous years, and this has brought down lottery ticket sales quite a bit. When you add this to the other sources of lower revenues for the WVGC, it’s clear that they need to do something drastic to avoid running into dire territory in upcoming years.

The Move to Internet Gambling

Naturally, the move to online gambling for West Virginia seems like the logical move. There are two ways that this could help the WVGC. First, it would provide more revenues than they are currently getting, which is fairly obvious. The less obvious change is that it would allow them to recoup revenues from players who left their live casinos in exchange for online options. This is extremely important, and it could help the state to make sure that they are getting revenues from all online gambling if restrictions are put in place like those in New Jersey, Delaware or Nevada.
