United States Interstate Poker Pushes Forward

rsz_us-interstate-pokerOne of the problems facing online gambling in the United States is that the player pools aren’t very large. While this isn’t a problem for certain types of betting like blackjack, video poker and slots, it’s a major problem for games that rely on social interaction like bingo or games that rely on a player ecosystem like poker. One idea to fix this problem is to allow states to share player pools. For US interstate poker specifically, things have been pushing forward in a good way in this particular area, and this could lead to major changes in how regulated online gambling is handled in the United States.

The Beginning of US Interstate Poker

The three states that have regulated online poker right now are Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey. All three of these states have had player pool problems, and in early 2015, Delaware and Nevada are going to combine player pools for this particular game. This is going to be really interesting because it’s a move that’s been anticipated before any of these states ever had games. This is such an important time for online poker because the fate of the future of the industry in the USA depends on whether or not these interstate options can continue to grow.

A Win-Win Situation

Poker is a very atypical game as far as the online gambling world goes because it requires a healthy ecosystem to be good for the players and to generate good revenues for the rooms. Generally speaking, the more players available in the pool the better. When you don’t have enough players, tables don’t start because players are a lot less likely to start their own tables than join new ones.

The All-American Poker Network platform is what they’re calling this project, and with Nevada and Delaware joining up, it’s going to be interesting to see if New Jersey and other future states that regulate online poker decide to join in. It’ll be in their best interests to do so, but they might not necessarily know that because lawmakers are ultimately the ones who control those decisions in a lot of cases.
