UK Microgaming Casinos Pulling Out of the Market

UK Microgaming CasinosIn the online gambling world, laws and regulations are changing all the time. Because of some recent changes in the United Kingdom, a number of UK Microgaming casinos are scheduled to pull out of the country as far as new sign-ups and phasing out established players into sister brands. The reason for this is a number of changes in the UK tax code which have been a part of efforts to increase revenues for the country. There are a lot of side effects to this change in laws, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens from here.

Why Many UK Microgaming Casinos Are Leaving

We need to be very specific about something here: Not all Microgaming casinos are leaving the United Kingdom. However, if they aren’t physically located inside of the UK, then they will have to until they get a new license based on these changes to how they are handling this side of things. This important distinction is the key to what’s going on right now with these legal changes.

The United Kingdom collects taxes based on these licenses, and a lot of sites do not have them if they do not operate inside of the physical borders of the UK because it was simply not required. Now it’s required, and if they don’t have a license, they are being forced out for the time being.

A Temporary Situation

In reality, this should be a temporary situation. The sites are encouraged to get licensed in the UK, and they have until the beginning of 2015 thanks to an extension in the deadlines for enforcement of the law. This gives them plenty of time to either exit completely or get their licenses lined up. It’s not entirely certain which sites are going to stay and which are going to go just yet, but one thing we do know is that this is really shaking up the online casino landscape. Overall, it’s going to be really interesting to see how other brands react to this and what implications it has for the legal landscape in the rest of the online casino world.
