The Story Behind the Slot Game

The Sopranos video slot game is themed after the long-running HBO series that we all knew and loved. Having won multiple awards and having enjoyed a tremendously popular run, it’s no surprise that Playtech made a highly entertaining slot game out of it for online casino players to enjoy.

Cards and Symbols

No fewer than 14 different images adorn the reels of The Sopranos slots, among them the faces of Christopher Moltisanti, Artie Bucco, Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri, and, of course, Tony Soprano himself, who acts as the wild symbol. The Sopranos’ logo is the scatter symbol, which triggers the free spins mode, and there are two other symbols that trigger the various bonus rounds.

Pay Lines

The Sopranos is a 5-reel, 25-payline slot game. You can score a payout of up to 3,000 times your wager if you manage to line up 5 wild symbols. You could also land a lesser payout of 100 times your line bet if you’re lucky enough for 5 scatter symbols to line up on a payline.

Graphics

One of the most exciting things for us about this game was the intro, which includes plenty of great clips from The Sopranos’ TV series, so we advise you not to skip it. In that regard, as well as during the gameplay itself, the graphics were pretty high-end. The sounds created the right ambience as well, but be advised that you may get a little tired of them if you play the game for too long in one sitting.

The Bonuses

Free Spins:

If you’re able to land 3 scatter symbols or more on a payline, you’ll unlock one of the 4 different free spins modes: Soldier Mode, Capo Mode, Boss Mode, and Family Mode. To move from one free spins mode to unlock the following one, you’ll first have had to trigger it 3 times.

Free Spins – The Soldier Mode:

No less than 25 free spins are at your disposal, with the soldier constituting the extra wild. You’ll earn an additional 5 free spins every time the soldier lands in the center of the 3rd reel.

Free Spins – Capo Mode:

Once you’ve triggered Soldier Mode 3 times, you’ll move on to Capo Mode, in which 20 free spins await you. You’ll start with a random multiplier that bumps +1 or -1 each time the capo symbol appears/doesn’t appear on the reels (up to 5x multiplier).

Free Spins – Boss Mode:

After 3 Capo Modes are triggered, it’s on to Boss Mode, where you get 10 free spins in which between 2–5 extra wild cards will randomly be distributed on the reels. You’ll get 5 extra free spins anytime the wild symbol lands in the center of reel 3.

Free Spins – Family Mode:

In this final stage of free spins, Family Mode, you’ll have 10 free spins in which to try and double each winning payout, via landing the wild symbol in a payline.

Stolen Goods Bonus:

Land container symbols on reels 1 and 5 simultaneously and you’ll activate the Stolen Goods bonus round. In the bonus round cash awards await underneath each of the 10 containers. You only get to keep the highest amount of cash you uncover, but you can also choose to stop picking containers at any time in case you’re worried the next one you pick will reveal a lower cash amount.

Bada Bing Bonus:

Land 3 Bada Bing symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4 and you’ll activate another great bonus round. Choose which of the game’s 5 characters will meet Tony and claim the cash bonus for each meeting that takes place until time runs out on you.

Police Raid Bonus:

This is a randomly triggered bonus round, so not all players will be fortunate enough to experience it. If you do, you’ll be presented with 4 envelopes full of money, which you’ll have to hide from the police in the floor, container, closet, and ceiling. You could stash all envelopes in one location and hope the police won’t raid there, or scatter the envelopes to ensure at least 1 or 2 of them won’t be found, to grant you some extra bonus cash at the end of the round.

Our opinion:

The bonus games and free spin modes really make The Sopranos video slot a one-of-a-kind game. A lot of thought was put into creating an entertaining experience for fans of the show who also want to win some money, and it shows.
