Rutgers Gambling Study Coming on New Jersey Impact

Rutgers Gambling StudyGambling studies are an important part of learning how different types of games and services can impact the economy and other aspects of society. The Center for Gambling Studies at Rutgers has been given about $1.3 million for a new study about how Internet gambling has affected the state of New Jersey. Games have been legal for about a year now in the state, and this upcoming Rutgers Gambling Study could have a major impact on how other states view regulating different types of online gambling in the future.

Why the Rutgers Gambling Study is So Important

There are currently three states where any type of online gambling is regulated and considered explicitly legal with no gray area. Other states have been looking to add games of their own, and 2014 was expected to be a big year. So far, however, no other states have actually pushed through laws because they’re all waiting to see what the impact will be from the states that already have them, and New Jersey is the best example they have to go on. This gambling study at Rutgers is so important because it will provide the information that lawmakers need to make decisions.

Timeline for the Study

Unfortunately, this study might not be finished with any interesting findings for a few years. This is already slated to be a three-year project, and because it’s the first major study of Internet gambling that’s actually happening in the United States, it’s not clear how efficient they’ll be able to be with their study because it’s all new territory. However, the fact that Governor Christie mandated this study to happen bodes well for the industry because it shows that people in office care about more than just adding to the state revenues.

Overall, it’s going to be really interesting to see what happens with this study because the impact could be huge for online gambling in the United States as a whole.
