New Jersey Betfair Operations to Continue With Caesars

new-jersey-betfairThere was some interesting news in September when the Trump Plaza closed down because of the implications on the online games that had been provided through a license with that casino. New Jersey Betfair operations are going to continue, however, after the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement gave Betfair and Caesars Interactive a six-month license for moving their servers so that they can prepare to offer their games in the state under a pairing with Caesars instead. This is a strategic move, though it’s necessary because otherwise Betfair would not be able to continue offering games in New Jersey.

About the New Jersey Betfair Operations

Betfair is still going to be running games through their BetfairCasino.com site even though the license will be changed to reflect the server transfer and the new pairing. Something interesting about this new order by the DGE is that it doesn’t explicitly allow any new online gambling sites to be created. Instead, it’s only about moving the existing sites over after the closure of the Trump Plaza left Betfair without a land-based casino to operate with which is the conditions for a site operating in that state currently.

Overall Implications of the Move

While this is a particularly interesting situation, it has some very specific implications for New Jersey online gaming. First, it shows that the Division of Gaming Enforcement is very serious about working with these companies to make sure that they can continue to offer games and generate revenue for the state and for the industry. Second, it shows that even in weird circumstances where a land-based operator pulls out or closes down, the DGE isn’t just going to boot an online gambling company out of the state for something that’s out of their control.

These things combine to show that online gambling is here to stay in New Jersey even though the projections on the revenues that they would get have been seen as being a bit high. Overall, this is good news for people in New Jersey and for people in other states who hope to see online gambling added in 2014 and 2015.
