Multi State Online Poker Hits Delaware and Nevada

Multi State Online PokerOne of the biggest stories of 2013 in the online gambling world was that a few of the United States declared their own legal framework for regulating Internet gambling within their own state borders. Delaware and Nevada were two of those states. However, there was a bit of a problem in that the player pools were very small. It’s hard to attract players to an online poker site if there aren’t many other people to play against, and there was no legal framework for states to share players at the time. But that has changed with a recent announcement.

Multi State Online Poker Becomes a Reality

Governor Brian Sandoval of Nevada met with Governor Jack Markell of Delaware to sign the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement recently in Wilmington, Delaware. This is a huge deal because it’s the first time that multi-state gambling has been set up with a legal framework to make everything operate within the bounds of the recently-created regulated US markets. The idea here is that smaller states, like Delaware, have a real problem in that their online poker efforts (and efforts for other types of online gambling) are somewhat hampered by having so few people. By partnering up with other sites to share players, this can be changed.

A Win-Win Situation

What’s really great about this deal is that it sets up a win-win situation for both states. Because each state will still just be making money from the revenues generated from their own players, neither state is losing money on the deal to the other party involved. However, with larger player pools, more people from each state will want to log in and play, and that means that both states are going to get more players signing up and playing more often as a result. In short, both states stand to improve their online gambling revenues by improving the experiences that their players have when they sign on.

This is a great step towards the ultimate goal of having online poker available and regulated across the entire United States of America.
