All The Details About Craps Place Bets Strategy

craps-place-bets-One of the issues with craps is that it can be a very involved game. If you play the pass line bet, the most basic bet in the game, it can be several rolls before that bet is resolved. This means that you’re going to have an uncertain time commitment when you’re playing, and that’s something that isn’t comfortable for a lot of players. With craps place bets, however, you can make bets that do not have a time commitment and that do not have an overwhelming house advantage. We want to introduce you to these bets so that you can start playing them right away.

How Craps Place Bets Work

There are six numbers in craps that are called the place numbers, and they are the same six numbers that can make a point: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. You can make a place bet on any of these that will win when the place number is rolled and lose if a seven is rolled while pushing on all other values. For the purposes of payout odds and house advantage, six and eight are grouped together, five and nine are grouped together, and four and ten are grouped together.

The Odds On These Bets

A place bet on 6 or 8 will pay out at a rate of 7:6. It also has a 0.46 percent house advantage on each roll, and that makes it a particularly attractive bet. The payout rate on place bets on 5 or 9 are 7:5, and they have a house advantage of 1.11 percent. The house advantage on the place 4 or 10 is a larger 1.67 percent, and they pay out at 9:5. As you can see, place bets on six and eight are the ones that you’ll want to stick with if you’re concerned with minimizing the house edge.

Place bets are a good way to get started at craps, but learning the gameplay with the pass line bet will give you a better start if you want to learn the ins and outs of the game in the general sense.
