Bovada Stops Taking New Jersey Poker Players

New Jersey Poker PlayersIn a move that’s sure to turn a lot of heads, New Jersey poker players will no longer be able to create new accounts at Bovada. Known as one of the most reliable sites for playing poker and online casino games in the United States, Bovada is starting what seems to be a slow-but-steady withdraw from the state of New Jersey. This makes sense to a degree because of how there is now more competition and more potential legal trouble in the state since Bovada would be unable to currently get a license to offer games in the state.

Options for New Jersey Poker Players Decrease

Poker is one of the games that has been highlighted with New Jersey’s regulated online gambling efforts, though casino games are still the most popular by far. Bovada offers both types of games, and if they’re pulling out on poker, then you can almost be certain that they will be pulling out on casino games in the not-too-distant future. For now, this is only true for new players, so it could have a lot to do with the affiliate battles that have been going on in New Jersey over the past couple of weeks.

Affiliate Drama

New Jersey made an announcement that they were going after a number of websites that provided information on gambling and other topics for potential players since they were referring those players to online casinos that were not licensed in the state. These sites were known as affiliates for the “offending” casino sites, and these affiliates are who the state was going after. By pulling out of the state, Bovada not only protects themselves from these issues, but they also protect their affiliates.

This is a smart move all around. While they might miss out on some small amount of profits by pulling out, it’s such a small amount relative to the big picture that it doesn’t make sense to risk lawsuits or whatever other legal trouble that could come their way if they continued to operate normally.
