Pennsylvanians Vote No To The Legalization Of Gambling Online

There are already three states in North America that legalize gambling online and there are much more to follow, but it seems that Pennsylvania will not be one of them any time soon, as long as the voters have a say in the matter. Many states are putting the question of online gambling to their citizens to determine whether or not there might be an interest in the field, and it was no different with Pennsylvania.

The Poll

A poll was conducted by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in Pennsylvania to determine whether or not Pennsylvanians might be open to the prospect of gambling online, in the event that it was legalized in the state. This poll was intent on capturing not only their interest in the field, but also their reasons for and against it. The results showed that most residents appreciate that online gambling is available in other states, but they don’t want it suddenly available to them in their own state; not by a long shot.

The results of the polls also showed some of the concerns that residents might have with regards to the legalization of gambling online, and one of the main ones had to do with the fear that this might lead to greater instances of gambling addiction.

Who Gets The Money?

One of the reasons more and more states are considering jumping onto the online gaming bandwagon is because this industry is an extremely profitable one and revenue from these casinos could benefit their home states in more ways than one.

The poll showed that more than 70% of the residents of Pennsylvania stated that if people were going to gamble anyway, the money should go to their home state, although more than 50% stated they didn’t want a casino within their state. Around 70% of the population believes that legalizing this form of gambling could lead to an increase in addiction.

Concerns with Addiction

Many states are concerned about the fact that the promotion of online gambling could end up in addiction, although there are those who feel that banning gambling online will not necessarily stop people from gambling. Those who are determined to do so will, even though online casinos offer measures to help prevent this problem from arising.

As many more states consider whether or not to follow in the footsteps of New Jersey and finally legalize online gaming, this means that many will have to turn to their residents to find out how they feel about this matter. In the end, it is the people of the state who will either jump on board or choose to boycott the casinos that are legalized, which means that their wishes will go a long way in predicting the success of a casino in any given state.
