As far as the theme goes, Playboy Gold is very clear on what’s being offered here. This is the second slot machine to offer a Playboy inspired theme, a branded release that once again is available at Microgaming casinos.

The graphics and features revolve around a couple of Playboy playmates, which you always see to the left and the right of the game area. They sometimes make appearances on the 6 reels as well, but not as often as the players might like. Unfortunately, the majority of the symbols that you see during regular rounds will consist of Playboy logos, card suits and poker chips, each one in several variants and colors.

There are 10 symbols per reel as well, so 60 showing each round, yet in a lot of cases you’re not going to see a single playmate in the game area. Considering that the Playboy brand will come with certain expectations from players, I’d say that it’s going to be a disappointing release visually.

Developer

The developer of the original Playboy slot was Microgaming, and they’re still the ones that hold the official license. They passed on the baton to Triple Edge Studios for the development of Playboy Gold, the game being offered exclusively at Microgaming’s casinos.

Triple Edge Studios is still an unknown quantity at this point, but Microgaming we all know, and it’s never a bad idea to sign-up at one of the casinos where they’re present.

How To Play It

50 coins will be sufficient during each spin, to cover 100 pay lines. Open up the bet menu, to select up to 10 coins per line and to increase the denomination from $0.01 to $5. This will allow you to spend as little as $0.50 per spin, or even as much as $2,500. High rollers will be able to spend a lot of money in this game, but those with smaller budgets aren’t forgotten either.

It’s not a typical layout for Microgaming’s slots, offering 6 reels and 10 rows of symbols, with 100 fixed lines available each round. Obviously, it’s going to be mobile friendly and easy to play, even when you see features that aren’t familiar to you, such as the mega symbols.

Special Features

The Playboy bunny symbols will have mega variants that can appear on the reels, and they will transform into 4×6 images of four playmates, called Stephanie, Hiromi, Gia and Carly. If you get the four middle reels to show you a jumbo symbol fully, then there will be an additional feature activated. You could get a multiplier of up to 5x for all your wins, a cash prize of up to 30x the stake, or up to 4 respins.

There will be wilds on the reels, the ones showing you the Playboy logo against a gold bar. These are usable only in combination with regular symbols, not with bonus icons.

The bonus icon will also have the Playboy bunny, same as other symbols, but made out of gold. Three scattered symbols will activate a Wheel Bonus, which can pay 100x the bet at most. The same wheel bonus can trigger 10 free spins or the Match Bonus.

Maximum Payouts

Regular wins on the individual lines could get to $5,000, but with multipliers involved, they could be improved to $25,000. The really good payouts come via the Wheel Bonus though, with 100x total stake available, or up to $250,000.

Summary

Playboy Gold has the right features and it’s an interesting game on that account, but the theme could’ve been more attractive visually, especially since the brand demanded something more than just logos and card suits for the regular symbols.
