Like most wild card games, there are some special hands in this game and bonus payouts for making hands without a wild. For example, there’s a 1,000x top jackpot for making a royal flush that does not use a joker. This is up from the typical 800x in most games. You’ll also have a shot at a 200x payout for five of a kind or 100x for a wild royal flush which is a royal that includes a joker.

Choosing the Game For You

Most of the time when you’re looking for a specific type of video poker, you’re primarily concerned with two or three values that can typically change on the paytable. With Joker Poker, you’re also looking at which hands qualify. You can find Joker Poker where hands as low as a pair of Kings qualify for a prize or where hands as high as three of a kind are needed to qualify. The standard paytable, however, pays out a 1x prize for a pair of kings or better. If you can find a 7/5 payout game (7x for a full house, 5x for a flush) where you’ll get paid for kings or better, then you probably have the best Joker Poker game that you can find.

The Meeting of Two Worlds

Unlike most wild card games, there is only one card that’s wild in Joker Poker. What this means is that most of your hands will actually play out like non-wild card games. However, you’ll need to make adjustments for the joker being in the deck, and that’s why Joker Poker can be such a difficult game to master. Essentially, you have to understand the principles of video poker for both wild card games and non-wild card games.

Since you can only get paid for a single pair if you have kings or aces, you’ll mostly have to rely on making bigger hands in this game. This helps to give the game a higher volatility than most types of video poker, so you’ll want to adjust your bankroll management strategies accordingly.

Most hands in Joker Poker are pretty straight-forward to play, and there are only a few types of situations where you’ll want to look out for anti-intuitive plays. If you have a hand that includes both a low pair (queens or lower) and a four-card straight draw, then you have one such type of situation. Most people will want to keep the straight draw and split up the pair because low pairs don’t pay out by themselves. However, the correct play is to keep the pair. This is due to a combination of the low 3x payout for getting a straight and the relatively high chances of making three of a kind or better due to the joker in the deck. Overall, there aren’t many other situations where you’ll have to play against your instincts in this game.
