If you’re a fan of the roulette games, then French Roulette is the game that you’re probably going to want to spend most of your time on. Unlike American roulette, French roulette does not have the double zero. Of all of the popular roulette games, this one offers the best bets available in terms of having a low house advantage, and this is thanks to a couple of special rules that make it a bit different from European roulette as well. Here we want to explain these rule differences and show you how to enjoy this game to the fullest.

Special French Roulette Rules

The main rule change is called “la partage,” and partage is the French word for sharing, so this sounds like a good idea right off the bat. The way this rule change works is that when you place an evens bet (even, odds, red, black, etc.), if the ball lands on the green zero, then you don’t lose your entire bet. Instead, you only lose half of your bet. This creates a positive difference in your payout rate when compared to European roulette, and that’s why it’s considered such a good rule.

An alternative to the “la partage” rule is the “en prison” rule. Instead of getting half of your bet back when you hit the green zero on an evens bet, a special marker is placed on your bet that keeps it in the game. If you win on the next spin, then you receive all of your bet back (but no payout), and if you lose on the next spin, then you lose the entire bet. This is a more exciting way of playing this out than the “la partage” rule, but it has the exact same effect on the payout rate.

Using The French Roulette Rules to Your Advantage

Other than the evens bets, all other bets in French roulette work exactly as they do in European roulette. Because of this, if you want to get the most from the more favorable rules, then you have to be placing evens bets in some capacity, even if they are in addition to other types of bets on the table. Some people think that the evens bets are boring because of the limited payouts, but there are ways around this.

One way to use these rules while making the game more exciting is to create tiers with your evens bets. For example, suppose you bet $5 on red, $5 on black and $5 on 1-18. All of these bets are getting a more favorable payout rate individually, but combined, they create several different payout tiers based on where the ball lands on the wheel. You could win $15, win $5, lose $5 or lose $15. This creates a much more interesting game than just having a single bet on there, and it’s a great way to spice up French roulette while taking advantage of the more favorable “la partage” and “en prison” rules that shave some of the house advantage off of the evens bets.
