Swedish Gambling Education Program Starting for Children

Swedish Gambling Education ProgramA new Swedish gambling education program is going to be put in place for seventh year students (and older). This program is going to include a lot of different information concerning probability, chance, understanding advertisements and different types of issues that they believe will help to educate kids and give them better chances at avoiding compulsive gambling and related situations. While the intent is obviously good, it’s not immediately clear if this program is going to have a strong effect on compulsive gambling rates. This is more of an experiment than the result of some big body of work, but the results of it could tell us a lot about the nature of problem gambling.

Why the Swedish Gambling Education Program is Important

Some people believe that problem gambling comes as a result of not understanding the advertising and odds given in the games. If that’s the case, then we should see a sizable decrease in the rate of gambling addiction and problem gambling-related issues as a result of this education program. However, it might not be that simple.

Plenty of people believe that problem gambling isn’t the result of a lack of knowledge. One argument there is that it’s more of a general tendency towards addiction, and that if it was gambling, it would be something else that triggered dopamine releases. There’s evidence to support this, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to find ways to curb problem gambling.

Affects for Online Gambling

One of the biggest complaints about the expansion of online gambling is that it preys upon people who are problem gamblers. While there’s plenty of research to show that this isn’t the case, an interesting situation comes up if this Swedish program works. If we can educate people in a way that will prevent problem gambling, then the expansion of online gambling will be more difficult to argue against. For now, we’ll have to just wait and see what happens with all of this.
