Pennsylvania Online Gambling Law Up for Consideration

Pennsylvania Online GamblingThe situation with online casino regulation in the United States is starting to come to a head. Three states have already regulated the industry on some level, and more are looking to shore up their budgets with the proceeds from the games. Pennsylvania online gambling legislation is getting a bit of momentum for the same reasons, and it’s one of as many as 12 states that are expected to consider the issue this year. Depending on how this goes, we could end up seeing Pennsylvania and other states adopting online gambling regulation on a state level inside of the next several months.

Why Pennsylvania Online Gambling Legislation Matters

Pennsylvania is located in a very important place in terms of the strategic placement for land-based casinos. When they opened up their own land-based licensing process, it really took a lot away from casinos in neighboring states like New Jersey. Online gambling, on the other hand, isn’t expected to really hurt any existing businesses in a major way, and since Pennsylvania is dealing with a deficit of about $2.3 billion in their budget, they’re looking for ways to general more revenues.

Following the Lead of New Jersey and Others

Just like all states that will regulate the industry going forward, Pennsylvania is having to follow the lead of the states that have done it already including New Jersey and Delaware. To this end, they’ll already have an idea of the problems that can come up like geotargeting issues, and they’ll already be aware that it’s really easy to make huge estimations about revenue levels that are completely out of touch with reality.

Whether or not they learn the lessons from the mistakes of other states is up in the air, however. Historically speaking, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a few more states to make the same mistakes before politicians start really paying attention. Until then, we’ll just have to see what happens in Pennsylvania.
