Get Extra Action in Craps With Place to Lose Bets

place to lose betsThe most common way for players to get started off in craps is to learn the pass line bet and how to take odds. From there, players are taught that they should branch out into other types of bets, but because there are so many other types of bets to choose from, it can be tricky to figure out where to go next. One good way to get some extra action without a high house advantage is to play with place to lose bets.

Mechanics of a Place to Lose Bets

There are six difference place to lose bets that fall into three different categories. All of them have the same thing in common, however. There are six numbers known as the place numbers, and those numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. A place to lose bet is a bet that’s hoping that a seven will be rolled before a certain place number. You can make this bet independently of any other bets, and that means that you don’t have to start them on a come out roll.

Payout Rates and Odds

The first category, and the best to bet on, involves the numbers 6 and 8. If you bet against a 6 or 8 coming before a 7, then you’ll get paid at 4:5 when you win. That means a $10 bet will profit $8 when you win. This bet, against either number, has a payout rate of 99.44 percent on each roll.

The second category is slightly worse to bet on, and it involves the numbers 5 and 9. You can make a place to lose bet on either of these numbers, and it will pay out 5:8 when you win. Betting against either of these numbers coming before a seven has a payout rate of 99.31 percent per roll.

Finally, you have the third category which includes 4 and 10. A place to lose bet on either of these numbers has a 5:11 payout rate, and it’s so small relative to the bet that you’re making because you’re going to win a large majority of the time since it’s relatively hard to roll either a 4 or a 10. The payout rate on these place to lose bets is 99.24 percent for each roll.

Things to Remember

There are a few key things that you need to remember when you start to make place to lose bets. The first and most important is that they are not the same as place bets. Place bets are betting on the point to come before the seven, and place to lose bets are betting on the seven to come before the point. We recommend place to lose bets because they have a lower house advantage overall. With that having been said, a place bet on 6 or 8 pays 7:6 and has a nice payout rate of 99.54 percent, but you should avoid place bets on any of the other place numbers because they have payout rates of lower than 99 percent.
