When you think of bad-ass warrior women, Valkyries come on the top of the lists. Female warriors of Norse heaven, who come down from the skies to pick worthy warriors from the battle-field to ascend them to Valhalla, and fight alongside said men when Ragnarok finally comes.

Given the increasing popularity of Norse mythology in recent years, it’s no surprise that ELK Studios decided to bring them forward and make them the stars of their own slot. The game offers gamblers a free spins bonus, as well as bonus spins that can reward three smaller special features, as a result.

Symbols include J, Q, K and A which are made out of metal and decorated with gems, as well as a hammer, a wolf’s head, a sword with a snake wrapped around it, and a glove, all made out of gold and having some type of gem sticking out of it – and finally, we have four Valkyries. Special symbols include Odyn as a Wild, a brown triangular rune as a free spins symbol, and a blue and light silver one for bonus symbols.

ELK Studios is a Swedish company, founded in 2012, and have managed to entrench themselves as a mid-range studio, focusing on less games that are higher quality, rather than releasing a title every month, and having it be of a questionable quality.

A lot of studios were formed around this time, all with the same goal – and ELK Studios joins strong names like Thunderkick and Yggdrasil as successful studios that managed to break through and take a slice of the pie for themselves.

We like ELK Studios – their games are always fun to play, they look nicely, and occasionally, they release a title that includes all of their previous characters, usually for seasonal things like New Years and Halloween. We certainly hope to see more of ELK in 2019 – here’s hoping their success continues.

How to Play it

The game is played on a 5×4 playing field with 1024 ways to win, forgoing regular paylines. This means gamblers cannot turn some or all of them off to decrease their total bet. Instead, players can adjust their wager by picking one of the pre-selected options ELK Studios has provided.

Fully embracing mobile, the user interface is focused for smaller, touch-screen devices, but remains functional on all devices thanks to the layout. All important buttons are on the corners of the screen, and you see your total cash and bet beneath the reels.

Gamblers can bet between $0.20 up to $100 per spin, which is an awesome spread of bets that will please both high rollers and casual gamblers alike, as well as everyone in between. There is an Autoplay option, but it’s rather limited, only allowing you to select the number of spins, without the ability to set a win or loss limit, or a single win threshold.

The background image is that of a hellish landscape, with dead trees and burning pits of lava all around. To the left of the reels, we see one of the Valkyries, who will guide and cheer you on while you’re playing this ELK release. You have some animations thrown in here and there – it’s not quite on par with larger studios, but you can tell a lot of polish went into the title.

Special Features

Gamblers can gain access to special bonuses when either through free spins, or by collecting three or more Bonus symbols, which grant one re-spin with one of the three Valkyrie bonuses.

Sword of Destiny creates full-reel Wilds on reels two, three and four. Shield of Chance creates Wild shields that fall in random positions and become Wilds. Finally, Arrows of Fortune hits certain symbols with arrows, which then become a big symbol, with 2×2, 2×3 or a 3×3 size.

The second bonus are free spins. Three, four or five Scatters reward five, seven or ten free spins, with the possibility to retrigger the bonus and win more, to get unlimited free spins. On top of that, gamblers also win one, two or three bonus spins.

Maximum Payouts
