The Mask is one of NextGen’s branded games, the slot being based on the 1994 film that has proved so popular back then. It’s one of the most popular comedies from the 90s, and it’s about time that a developer got the rights to make a slot machine based on it.

Even though it’s an older film, over two decades having passed since its release, the graphics that ended up being used for the slot machine are quite good and the look is an enjoyable one overall.

Images of Jim Carrey and of Cameron Diaz are shown among the symbols of The Mask, as are pictures with Milo (the dog), with the Green Mask, the famous yellow hat or stacks of cash and money bags. Cartoonish playing cards that are going in all directions are also present.

Developer

The action in NextGen Gaming’s slot revolves around a movie, and while it’s not their only branded game, they don’t exactly specialize in them either.

They have a large collection of slots, being an older software company that’s part of NYX these days, and they can deliver just as easily a horse-themed slot (Golden Mane), as they can offer something from the legends of China (Xing Guardian).

How To Play It

Thanks to the times that we live in, with mobile devices being so prevalent, the options are going to be all grouped in a single area, on the right side, around the Spin button. You can select the wager from there, trigger the Auto Play mode or access the paytable.

The wagers of The Mask can be very low, even at $0.10, but the player is free to increase them to $50 if he wants to. There will always be 20 active lines, for the 5×3 reels that spin.

Special Features

Four different wild features are going to come to you in this game, and they’re all delivered by The Mask. Their names are Alarm Block, In a Spin, By The Horn and Mask Unmask, and they’re going to deliver wilds to the reels in different ways.

Bonus symbols, showing the entrance to a nigh club, are scatters and they’re useful in triggering 10 to 25 free spins. Have them appear up to five times, to get those free spins. This part of the game has the possibility of an upgrade as well, where you get a 5x multiplier for all wild wins. The Mask also has a better chance of appearing and triggering his random features.

The Mask is your wild symbol, so on one hand you might have it part of some other regular combo, while on the other it might deliver you his own rewards if you’re lucky.

Maximum Payouts

96.525% is the average RTP that’s announced for The Mask. It’s a good figure, but it tells you what you can win in the very long run, and the results you get can vary a lot in either direction.

The individual wins don’t give you that much, 150x being the prize that’s expected from a combo of five wilds, or up to $750 in the base game. You can do better in the free games, if you end up having the 5x wild multipliers active.

Summary

The Mask is a lot of fun, and it manages to transmit some of the humor of the original movie through its symbols and features.
