Let It Ride Poker

Let It Ride is a poker-based table game that is kind of an obscure combination between the concepts of video poker and the concepts of table poker. You need a particular set of skills to play this game well because it’s so unlike anything else that’s out there. Instead of playing a poker hand against the dealer, you’re just trying to maximize the value of your hand based on a paytable, and in this way it’s like online video poker. However, the way you do this is very atypical and isn’t something that you can do intuitively.

Gameplay

The way this game works is that you place three bets that are all the same size. You’re then dealt three cards, and you can elect to pull back one of your bets (or not). Then you’re dealt a fourth card, and again you have the option to pull back one of your bets. Finally, the fifth card is dealt, and you are paid out a multiple of whatever bets are left on the table based on a paytable that’s similar to the paytables used in video poker. Since your main decisions revolve around when to pull back your bets, it’s easy to see that all of strategy in this game will revolve around those two decisions.

The Paytable

There are a variety of paytables available for this game. However, the most popular is the 11/8/5 format where you can get an 11x payout for a full house, 8x for a flush and 5x for a straight. The lowest hand that can win a payout is usually a pair of tens, but sometimes you might see some variation on this. Generally speaking, you should compare at least two or three different paytables before playing to make sure that you’re getting a good deal. There are upwards of a dozen paytables used for this game at different places, so it’s important to compare.

Let It Ride Poker Strategy

To play this game well, you need to know when to pull back your bets with three and four cards. If you have three cards, then you should pull your bet back most of the time. You should keep your bet out there if you’ve already made at least a pair of tens or better since you’re guaranteed a payoff. You should also keep three to a royal and any three suited cards in a row. If you have three to a straight flush with one gap, you can keep it as long as you have at least one high card. If you have three to a straight flush with two gaps, again, you can keep it as long as you have at least two high cards.

After using this strategy, playing with four cards is much easier. You’ll only keep your bet out if you have a pair of tens or better, four to a flush or four to an outside straight draw. You can only keep your bet out with four to an inside straight draw if all of your cards are high cards.
