Birthday has been released by ELK Studios and it’s a game that seems to represent a celebration for them. They have included characters from many of their former popular slot machines into it, and they show up during features.

The location is in a bar, with the Bull from El Toro acting as the bartender. Many of the symbols you see are based on the idea of a birthday party, so you have balloons colored in red, green or blue, there are red roses, cocktails and neon signs with the game’s logo.

As for the design, it’s as good as in any of their past releases, easy to see since it uses so many of their old characters inside.

Developer

ELK Studios has a limited collection of slot machines, but what I’ve seen them release so far has been of high quality usually.

I like that they tend to use unusual setups, so they don’t go for the standard 20-25 lines, and they also have some unique feature implemented in each of their slots. Their titles are then fun to play and unique, always a plus when you have thousands of slots to choose from.

How To Play It

You will see an image of stacked coins in the bottom left corner. That’s your bet options menu, which lists wagers between $0.10 and $50. You select whatever amount you want, but it will always have 100 coins in it, even the $0.10 one.

One thing that’s special about ELK games is the Betting Strategy option. You can play with a fixed wager, or you can allow the slot to change it up or down, depending on what happens on the reels and how your budget evolves.

This game has 5 reels, 4 rows of symbols and 178 connecting lines, so they’re sort of like ways to win, but much more limited.

Special Features

First, you get the Wild Birthday Cake. You use it to substitute for other types of symbols, and they also pay the game’s top prize when they align up to five times on a line.

The wild is the only regular feature offered, all the others triggering at random, so the symbols on the reels have no power over them.

Happy Spins will be a feature that goes on for as long as a bonus is active in it. These features come from the various guests, at random.

The Camel gives you respins until you get 3 to 5 wins. Mr Lake will do the same until you have a line with 5 matching symbols in it, so a full combo. Electric Sam delivers Electrified, where a symbol is collected and it pays you, until you get no more. Anne Bonny has the Big Win as a target, of 20x the bet or more, which you need to get or the free spins will continue until this happens. From Matador, you have respins until the selected symbol has a winning combo.

Maggie will have 10 free spins with you, where you can obtain Walking Wilds or Sticky Wilds from other characters.

Maximum Payouts

Individual wins might not pay more than $750 in this game, but the overall potential is for as much as $250,000, the amount that they claim you can take home from it.

Summary

Once again, ELK delivers a slot machine that’s far from a standard game in this industry, and that can only make it an attractive choice.
