EuroMillions Lottery Review

EuroMillions LotteryThe EuroMillions lottery originally started in February, 2004 and had just three participating countries: United Kingdom, Spain and France. Just a few months later in October, this portfolio increased to include Switzerland, Portugal, Luxembourg, Ireland, Belgium and Austria.

When you play EuroMillions you can always expect a minimum jackpot of €15 million, and secondary prizes are worked out as percentages of the total prize pool depending on ticket sales.

How Does EuroMillions Work?

When you buy your tickets you choose five numbers from one to 50, and an additional two Lucky Star numbers from one to 11. The draws are held on Tuesdays and Fridays in Paris, France.

There are three other associated EuroMillions games that are country-specific:

• EuroMillions Plus: Available in Ireland only, for an extra cost, players can opt to have their five main numbers entered into a separate draw for a jackpot of €500,000.

• Millionaire Raffle: Available in the U.K. only, for an increase in cost per line, players stand a chance to win a minimum jackpot of £1 million.

• My Million: Available in France only, players are automatically entered into the draw to win a guaranteed €1 million.

Payouts and Odds

The prize payouts and odds of you winning them are as follows:

2 only = 18% (1:23)
2 + 1LS = 17.6% (1:46)
1 + 2LS = 6.5% (1:156)
3 only = 3.7% (1:327)
3 + 1LS = 2.2% (1:654)
2 + 2LS = 2.3% (1:821)
3 + 2LS = 0.5% (1:11,771)
4 only = 0.7% (1:14,387)
4 + 1LS = 0.7% (1:28,773)
4 + 2LS = 0.8% (1:517,919)
5 only = 1.6% (1:3,236,994)
5 + 1LS = 4.8% (1:6,473,989)
5 + 2LS = 32% (1:116,531,800)

The remaining 8.6% of the total prize pool is allocated to a Booster Fund so that the minimum jackpot will always sit at €15 million even if ticket sales weren’t high enough for that particular draw.

If there are no winning jackpot tickets, the prize rolls over to the next draw—and the next, and the next—until it reaches its jackpot cap of €190 million. If that is still not won after two draws, then the prize is shared out among those who are next in line to win i.e. five main numbers plus one Lucky Star.

The largest EuroMillions jackpot to date reached €190 million in August, 2010 and was won by a lucky married couple from the U.K.
