Blackjack Switch Game Review

For a long time, there was a way to cheat in live blackjack that was based on playing two hands at a time and switching cards from one hand to another. This trick became so well-known that Playtech created a new game called Blackjack Switch that allows you to execute this maneuver as one of the legal options in these online casino games. In this game, you make two bets of the same size on two blackjack hands. The hands are dealt, and you have the option to switch the back card. After you decide to switch (or not), then you play out each hand normally. In exchange for the option to switch, the dealer gains two advantages. First, all blackjacks pay out at 1:1 instead of 2:1. Also, when the dealer busts with a 22, it pushes against all non-blackjack, non-busted player hands.

Two Strategy Points to Learn When Playing Blackjack Switch

There are two aspects of strategy that you have to learn to perform well at Blackjack Switch. The first aspect is learning when to switch, and the second aspect is learning how to deviate from typical multi-deck blackjack strategy to compensate for the 1:1 blackjack payout and the dealer pushing with 22. Let’s start with when to switch.

The strongest starting hands that a player can have in Blackjack Switch are the following, starting with the strongest: 21, 20, 19, AA, 11, 10, 9, 18, and 8. Based on this idea, there are two ways that you can approach the switching aspect of the game, and the correct approach depends on what the dealer’s card looks like. When the dealer is showing a seven or eight, you’ll want to switch based on the idea of trying to get your two hands to be as close to each other in value as possible based on the above list. When the dealer has any other card showing, then you’ll be trying to maximize the value of your best hand. If you have a 19, for example, and can switch to achieve a 20 or 21, then you’ll do so.

General Guidelines on How to Play Blackjack Switch

The general guidelines for how to play to compensate for the decreased online blackjack payout and the dealer pushing on 22 are as follows. First, you’ll be doubling much less often, especially with soft hands. Second, you’ll be slightly more aggressive with hitting with hard hands on the low end like 12 and 13. Third, you’ll be splitting much less often with small paired hands in situations where you usually split because of the dealer’s chances of going bust with cards from two through six.

The most important of these guidelines is to avoid doubling with soft hands except in a few specific circumstances. If you are facing a six, then double with a soft total of 16 through 18. When facing a five, double with a soft total of 17 or 18. These are the only times you should be doubling with soft hands, and while that might seem like a very passive way to play these types of hands, just remember that you’re getting a lot of compensation with the added ability to switch.
