The name of the game comes from the fact that it uses a shoe with five decks, a number of decks that is not usually ever used in blackjack. This game has a late surrender when facing dealer cards that aren’t an ace, and the dealer hits on a soft 17. You can split to four hands, though you can’t re-split aces, and doubling is only allowed on your first two cards. You can double after splitting in this game. One key rule is that, much like European blackjack, there is no peeking for blackjack, so you have to be conservative when facing a dealer ace or ten when it comes to splitting or doubling.

Because there are no side bets or special rules that aren’t seen in any other blackjack games, the main key of performing well with Big 5 Blackjack Gold is playing solid in all different types of situations. Also, you should avoid splitting paired nines against a dealer showing seven in this game, even though you should split against every other card except for a ten or ace. The reason is that the dealer will often have 17, and standing on your 18 will win very often.
